Training goes on afoot with our dedicated boat and shore crew; especially for the new recruits that have joined us over the past few weeks. Not just feet but for our head we now have new Mantra helmets; very different from the old Gecko’s. Service calls are recorded on the notice board next to the shop, social media and the website.
Exercises are being planned with our flanking stations, Southwold and Harwich, the Coastguards and will include training with SAR helicopter from Lydd.. These take place on Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings.
The Water Safety team has been very busy attending Village Halls, Boat Jumbles and Sailing Clubs around the county to spread the word on how to stay safe in and out of the water. Lots of events are planned for the rest of the year including attending the Henham Hall and Framlingham Country Shows.
The Shop is open every day and the gallant crew who run the shop are happy to chat and provide some excellent background to the RNLI.
If you would like to visit the Lifeboat Station and learn a bit more about its history “Saving Lives At Sea” on the Suffolk Coast. As well as giving guided tours the team also go out to Schools, Association Meetings and Sports Clubs. The Visits Team will be happy to hear from you.
A new RNLI initiative is the Youth Activity Scheme for 16-18 year olds; promoted on our Facebook page we already have our first recruit to join us and learn skills for water safety.
The benches on the south elevation of the boathouse, now outside, have all been oiled by one of our volunteers and look really smart. The City of Winchester rudder is in the process of being renovated and will be pridee of place when the new displays are set up at the station.
Following a successful Quiz Night and Golf Sweep, the Aldeburgh Lifeboat Guild are busy preparing for the next street collection, laying plans for the Carnival and the Street Fair later in the year. Do get in touch if you can help with our fundraising arm of the station.
