No. 7 Date 24/09/11  Launch time 12.10. Gentle breeze.

Description:  Aldeburgh Lifeboat station launched the inshore lifeboat, ‘Christine’, to a report of an unidentified object in the water, thought to be in the area of Sizewell.

The Aldeburgh ILB proceeded to the area and a thorough search was made, but nothing was found.  After consulting other vessels in the area, it was thought that the object/vessel was not in the location as first thought.  Lowestoft Lifeboat, returning from a previous service, were asked to use their Direction Finding equipment and located the angling boat much further north off Southwold.

The RNLI ILB ‘Christine’ returned to station at 14.00.

 

No. 6 Date 20/09/11  Launch time 15.45.

Description: Aldeburgh Lifeboat station launched both the All weather lifeboat, ‘Freddie Cooper‘ and the inshore lifeboat, ‘Christine’, to a report of a motor cruiser in difficulty off Sizewell beach.  Follow the link below for more detail.

No.5  Date 2/08/11  Launch time 16.56.  

Description: Aldeburgh Lifeboat Station launched the RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat  ‘Freddie Cooper’ and Inshore Lifeboat ‘Christine’, to a report of a boat stranded at the mouth of the River Alde.

The RNLI ALB ‘Freddie Cooper’ was requested to launch at 21.52 to assist a boat that was stranded due to a rope around the propeller.  The RNLI lifeboat was launched at 21.56.  In shallow waters, the lifeboat crew, on the ILB, secured the boat to the ALB who escorted it to Sholtley Marina for repairs.

 

No.4  Date 24/05/11  Launch time 16.56.  

Description: Aldeburgh Lifeboat Station launched the RNLI’s ILB ‘Christine’, to a report of engine failure on a local fisherman’s boat.

The RNLI ILB ‘Christine’ was requested to launch at 16.55 to assist a fishing vessel that had engine failure off Sizewell beach.  The RNLI lifeboat was launched at 16.56, arriving on scene at 17.12.  With the assistance of the lifeboat crew, the engine was restarted and the fishing boat was escorted safely back to Aldeburgh beach.

The RNLI ILB ‘Christine’ returned to Aldeburgh Lifeboat Station at 18.30.

 

No.3  Date 08/05/11  Launch time 13.14.  Slight breeze, Sea State slight

Description: Aldeburgh Lifeboat Station launched the RNLI’s relief All Weather Lifeboat ‘Bingo Lifeline’ and Inshore Lifeboat ‘Christine’, after a report of a stranded motorboat south of Aldeburgh.

The RNLI ALB ‘Bingo Lifeline ’ was requested to launch by Thames Coastguard at 13.12, tasked to assist a stranded motorboat south of the Ridge.  The 42ft motorboat, with two people onboard, was sailing to Lowestoft when it lost one its engines and the crew also reported taking on water.  The RNLI Lifeboat was launched to assist the casualty at 13.14, in winds SSE 3 and slight sea.  The RNLI ILB ‘Christine’ was also launched to assist in the rescue.  Once securing a line to the casualty, the motorboat was towed by the ALB towards Southwold, when the Lowestoft RNLI Lifeboat took over to continue its journey.

The RNLI ILB ‘Christine’ returned to Aldeburgh Lifeboat Station at 15.00 once the ALB was underway.  RNLI ALB ‘Bingo Lifeline ‘ returned to station at 18.15.

 

No 2 29/04/11

Description: Aldeburgh Lifeboat Station launched the RNLI’s ILB ‘Christine’, for a second time this week, after a report of an overdue boat sailing into Orford.

 

No 1  Date 26/04/11  Launch Time 19.36, Winds NE 6-7, Sea State rough

Description: Aldeburgh Lifeboat Station launched the RNLI’s ILB ‘Christine’, after a call from a yacht 3 miles south of Aldeburgh on the River Alde.

The RNLI ILB ‘Christine’ were requested to launch by Thames Coastguard at 19.32, to a yacht approximately 3 miles south of Aldeburgh, at Blackstakes Reach on the River Alde.  The yacht was sailing in the River Alde, when the lone yachtsman got into difficulty when they got stuck in shallow water having missed a tack.  The RNLI lifeboat was launched to rescue the casualty at 19.36, in rough water with winds NE 6 –7 (22-33mph).  After arriving to the casualty, at 19.55, one of the lifeboat crew went on board to assist the yachtsman.  Using an anchor and winch, the yacht was eventually pulled off the riverbed and then escorted by the ILB ‘Christine’ back to Aldeburgh.

The RNLI ILB ‘Christine’ returned to Aldeburgh Lifeboat Station at 21.09.
