The Cessna PA32 plane crashed at North Shipwash off Orfordness just after 6.30pm.

Thames Coastguard received a Mayday call at 6.32pm to reports of a light aircraft ditching into the water with between three and four people on board.

The RAF Rescue Helicopter 125 from Wattisham and a search and rescue helicopter from Belgium were immediately called, along with RNLI all weather lifeboats from Aldeburgh and Harwich and the RNLI inshore lifeboat from Harwich to the last reported position of the aircraft.

All this week there will be events occuring in and around Aldeburgh Lifeboat Station.  These events include:-

22nd August – Church service on the beach at 3pm

24th August – Meet the Crew

25th August – Quiz Night

27th August – Pub collection

28th August – Street Fair and Open Day, which includes a launch at 3pm.

To start at 12.00 at the Recreation Ground.  Events include:-

Classic cars, motorcycles, Bouncy Castle, Bucking Bronco, stalls, raffles and an Auction of Promises at 1.30pm.

A charity golf match in aid of the RNLI is being held at Thorpeness Golf Club.  For more details please contact Thorpeness Golf Club.

The Aldeburgh Lifeboat Guild AGM is to be held at Aldeburgh Community Centre at 7.00pm.
All are welcome to attend a review of the events of 2009.
Includes a talk from guest speaker (T.B.C)
Refreshments will be available.
